Confirmation in the Catholic Church is a sacrament of initiation that seals a baptized person with the gift of the Holy Spirit, strengthening them to live out, defend, and witness their faith publicly. It is considered the perfection of Baptismal grace, usually administered by a bishop through laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil (chrism).

Confirmation deepens baptismal grace, unites the individual more closely to Christ, and increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
